About: Fun and interactive enrichment materials that teach kids about the healthy food produced and grown here at Applecrest Farm. Everything about the program is designed to help kids learn, cook, grow, taste, smell, feel, and get creative with their food. Budding Farmers is offered as a supplemental educational add-on to our share boxes and is designed for pre-K through Elementary aged children; you simply pick-up your bi-weekly materials with your FarmShare CSA membership. Any kid can be a Budding Farmer!

Included: Every Budding Farmer member receives a 100% recyclable binder, an “I’m a Budding Farmer” handy kid’s tote bag and bi-weekly packets to fill the binder. Every other week, Budding Farmers will learn about a new in-season fruit or veggie and receive a corresponding packet of materials focusing on a fruit, veggie, or herb. Each packet features a growing guide with seeds, nutrition and fun facts, a creative activity, a science project and 2 recipes; all focusing on that week’s item. These conveniently fit in each appropriately laid out section in the Budding Farmer’s binder. See a sample of materials below.

Along with receiving educational materials, our Budding Farmer’s will be invited to a season opening orientation and demo with Applecrest Farm’s  head grower, Mr. Mack. This orientation will focus on the contents of the packets, engage participants in cultivating their first seeds, and go over general expectations of the growing season. Budding Farmers and their families are also invited to a complimentary Red Apple Farm tour in the fall.

Deadline for Budding Farmer sign ups is May 28th, 2015. Sign-ups after May 28th will be subject to a shipping and handling fee.
