This Weekend: 100th Anniversary Celebration with Groundbreaking for New Farm-to-Table Restaurant & more!
This weekend is shaping up to be a Harvest Festival weekend for the books as our 100th Anniversary Celebration continues! We’ve got a spectacular lineup of centennial happenings, and are bringing back some fan-favorite events. We hope you and your family will join us!
Farm-To-Table Restaurant Groundbreaking Ceremony
This Sunday, September 29th, at 1:00 pm, we’ll be hosting a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction on our brand-new, state-of-the-art facility. Special guests attending the celebration will be State Senator Nancy Stiles, New Hampshire Commissioner of Agriculture Lorraine Merrill and Representative Elaine Ahearn.
With a planned completion in the fall of 2014, this new building will include a farm stand, bakery and farm-to-table restaurant. There will be few purer expressions of the farm-to-table concept than at our bistro-style restaurant! The menu will change not just by the season, but by the day, with a menu sourced literally out the front door. With its stone fireplace and orchard views, the restaurant will also provide a year-round community gathering place, where locals and passersby alike can meet and chat over a bite to eat. In the evenings, the restaurant and lantern-lit fieldstone patio will be a haven for a season-long dinner series and select private functions. The 12,000 sq. ft. store will enable us to better serve the community by providing an expanded retail space to accommodate a vast array of grown-on-the-farm fruits and vegetables, bakery items, artisan goods and other local products.
As a part of our continued efforts towards energy self-sufficiency, the new building will be fitted with a roof-mounted PV solar array, complementing the farm’s existing 50KW system. Once this solar array is installed, the farm will be nearly 100% off the grid at peak season.
We hope you’ll join us to celebrate this exciting expansion!
Applecrest Rules!
Saturday and Sunday, at 2:45pm, an Applecrest Memoirette by world-renowned author John Irving will be read aloud, along with an excerpt from his novel, The Cider House Rules. John tapped into his experiences working at Applecrest to write the 1985 novel. Although John Irving will not be able to join us in person, he wrote the memoirette for the centennial occasion. Join us in celebrating this literary legend and his ties to the farm.
Our Biggest Prize Weekend Yet
Have fun and win big this weekend with lots of chances to score prizes! Prizes include T-shirts, pumpkins, bags of apples, and $100 bills. And, of course, ALL participants of the pie-eating contest are instant winners of a plate of fresh apple pie! Bragging rights for the entire year are also up for grabs.
For the second weekend in a row, we’ll be tucking $100 bills into a few pick-your-own bags. Last weekend, four lucky winners walked away with benjamins—this weekend could be your turn!

We’d like to be celebrating with you on this glorious
day, which for us is the 50th birthday of our daughter, Sarah. We picked some Honey Crisps in East Dorset, VT (across the valley from J. Irving…by the way one of my favorite movies and novels)…
last weekend and thought of your festival offerings.
Here’s raising a glass of (not cider) to you and your
family at this momentous occasion. Look forward to seeing you in Jackson Hole this winter….it’s snowing at 9000 ft. already!!! SCOTT & ELINOR
